Came here for a work event. Beautiful hotel. Rooms are top notch and what you would expect from a 5 star hotel with a lovely turn down service. Food is outstanding. Enjoyed the lobster roll and sea bass. Views are outstanding and relaxing. The walk around the lake is lovely.

Although I live 20 minutes away, I was excited to be at The Umstead again for a weekend board retreat. The hotel rooms are fantastic - the robe is my favorite, most comfortable robe ever - and the meeting rooms with accompanying catering have been top tier both years we’ve done this. The staff has always been kind, welcoming, and accommodating. A few stand out experiences I had this time were: requesting a refrigerator for my room after our group dinner and they brought a true mini refrigerator above and beyond my expectations (see pic); when I went to the bar downstairs one night and had to sit in the lounge instead- which turned out great because my server was Nikki and she was fantastic; the hot cider they served in the afternoons was so delicious and perfect after lunch; we had a brief fire drill or incident where the hotel had to be evacuated - that was inconvenient but the humanity I saw outside among guests and staff was beautiful especially these days. One day I’ll make it to the spa. I heard it’s divine.

It did take a while for the room to be ready, but other than that everything was great. Everyone was pleasant, and seemed like they actually enjoyed working there. Rooms smelled nice. Everyone was accommodating

I just had a wonderful lunch at Heron's Bar inside the hotel! The manager Kevin..hostess Lilly and server Thomas were fantastic! I had my service dog with me and they made me feel welcomed. As a Veteran with a service dog thats not always the experience! Burger was amazing but the real treat was the wonderful staff! Sincere and genuinely kind!

I truly amazing place to be located in Raleigh this is a five-star hotel with a five-star restaurant known as Heron's. I don't even know where to start as someone who's come from this industry for many years I was truly impressed by everything that they offered the little details attention to customer service and the staff for all very friendly and helpful. It was our first time here but we will definitely be back.

I've lived in Raleigh for more than 10 years and had always heard great things about the Umstead but hadn't had an occasion to visit it until now. I had a friend passing through and arranged for us to have brunch at Heron's (10/10) and decided as a treat to book a hotel room there so I didn't have to think about traffic to get there. Everything about it was wonderful. The hotel front exterior looks slightly dated - it has that brutalist/neomodern exterior that was all the rage in the 70s/80s (it was a thing) but inside it's timeless and elegant. Plush and soft and quiet and modern without trying to be hip. It's what you want a luxurious hotel to be. The staff - every single person from bellhop to reception to restaurant staff - are polite, kind, friendly, welcoming. The rooms are more high-tech than you think will be - touch screens to control lights, etc., the in-room free amenities of coffee, tea etc. are not just plentiful but high-end and feel posh. The linens, carpet, etc. in the rooms are luxurious and the walls and doors are well-insulated - I heard no hallway noise or any other noise while there. You will sleep WELL. I think I'm going to have to give myself some more in-town escape treats to The Umstead. I feel like I went on vacation and I was 5 miles away from home.
